heat soak

  A friend of mine with an 87 stock 16v has had an intermittent problem
with what we believe is a heat soaked starter.   After driving the car
for a while on a really hot day (upper 90's -low 100's) the starter will
not kiçk in when he turns the key unless he holds it for 2-5 seconds,
or lets the car sit for a while.  Any ideas, solutions?
