Re: calif smog q

It depends on where you go. I've been to some shops that, after talking
with the mechanic, hooked it up to the machine to see if it would pass w/o
charging me the $25. He let me do it 3 times and told me each time what to
replace (cat, egr, whatever). Damn cool guy. I got it after the egr and
cat (total about $120 work, did it all myself). Plus I've been in to other
places where I had a noticeable exhaust leak (not a gaping hole) and the guy
didn't think twice before hooking it up. Why would he care? Just some guy
that works at Chevron. If you really want to just "get by," try dumping
some of that smog inspection stuff into your gas tank, it's at pretty much
any auto parts store. They guarantee that you will pass by dumping it in
there. I haven't tried it but I'm sure it would work. I think on my car
I'm just gonna get the downpipe for w/o a cat after I get it smogged, and
just pop the cat back on 2 yrs later when I need to get it smogged. It
doesn't really matter that much, I know people that ride around w/o cats no
problem (as far as the law).
