Gary, the only way to get a 2 door Golf with a 1.8t is to spend the extra
money on a GTI 1.8t.  You see, the base models are GLs, they are 2 door,
and NO option to get the 1.8t (though you can get a TDI like me!), Next
step up is the GLS which are ALL 4 door, you CAN get a 1.8t in a GLS.  But
if you are set on a 2 door 1.8t the only way is a GTI 1.8t, which has all
the heavy crap.  I personally LOVE my Golf GL TDI, cost me $16k and it's
fun and quick, plus doesn't have power mirrors or windows (expensive shit
that breaks anyway).  Good luck on your search, if you really want the
1.8t you might have to settle for a 4 door.  Oh, and the Bettle GLX IS a
chick car, my old roommate bought one, those things are so heavy cause of
all the added options that it really didn't impress me much, my TDI is by
far more fun to drive, though my Golf really could use a suspension
upgrade, the stock suspension is a bit soft for my tastes.
