1/4 mile results
hello all. some may care about this, some may not.
i was at drag park this past sunday with a bunch of my friends, and i
have the results of my first properly-timed 1/4 mile action. before i
divulge the numbers, i must say that the weather was swelteringly hot. due
to the fact that my car is currently using a CIS-E system from a 16V rocco,
hot weather adversely affects the performance of the engine. having no
electronics is a major disadvantage in weather like this.
i was told by just about everyone that i spoke to that the track i was
at (cayuga) that it is a terrible track to run on. one guy i talked to who
was from somewhere in pennsylvania, was running his 1981 supra. his best
time for the day was about a 15.8, when only last week he ran a 15.1 (or
something to that effect) down atenglishtown dragway in jersey.
another guy who ran at englishtown in super hot weather ran a best time
of 13.84 there, while only able to pull a best of 14.04 at cayuga.
yes, i'm making excuses, but i assure you, they are more for me then
they are for you. i was honestly hoping to break into the 13s yesterday,
but i'm afraid that i must settle for 14.264.
understand that while i am happy with this time, i was expecting more,
so the feelings of disappointment are strong. especially when i consider
the fact that jasin larsen's 2.0 16V BEAST mk1 rocco runs a 14.2 with a
stock motor. jeez.
anyways, here's some of the nitty gritty for all y'all who care about
such things:
best run of the day:
DIAL 14.20
R/T .731
60' 1.997
330 5.872
1/8 9.085
MPH 75.63
1000 11.892
1/4 14.264
MPH 95.56
the car that i eliminated was a lightly worked typeR. his specs were:
DIAL 14.70
R/T .563
60' 2.322
330 6.302
1/8 9.525
MPH 76.55
1000 12.283
1/4 14.686
MPH 88.23
this was nice. especially since alee (my girlfriend) was in the stands
with a bunch of friends listening to a number of fools behind her talking
about how they hated VWs and how they were slow and whatnot. when i lined
up with the typeR, they were talking loud about how the typeR was going to
dust the dub. as soon as the typeR got dusted, alee, perry, and boogs got
up in the mouth-runners faces and told them what's what.
absolutely beautiful to make ignorance feel stoopid.
but i digress.
what i had done to the car:
duct-taped the front end in an attempt to score some aerodynamic points
MT 20x6-14 slicks on the front, run at 18psi
yoko A520s on the rear pumped to 55psi
took all the garbage out of the back (tools/spare/useless sub box, etc.)
disconnected the full throttle switch to allow the O2 sensor to monitor the
fuel mixture even at full throttle (as opposed to ignoring the O2 signal
above 4K @ full throttle and going to open loop) **(big thanks to dave
bonhoff, tuner extrordinaire, for having a melon that can figure this kinda
shit out - it's lost on me)**
and i guess that that's it.
i'll post a big long message again when i run it on a cooler day...
jason
the mad bastard
