SIR N.I.R.A. Import Nationals
WHAT A KICK IN THE PANTS!!!
The day started out a little cloudy, but cleared fairly quickly. We arrived
at around 8am when the gates opened. It was $45 (!!!!) to race and since I
skipped church and did all the planning I did, I figured I came to race so I
better!!
My first pass wasn't too bad. I got low 15s. By about my 3rd pass I was
getting better reaction times etc and got into the upper 14s. The classes
were strange. They actually had a separate class for engine swaps. So,
that was me. Then there was a class for turbos, superchargers, nitrous,
etc. Of course there were 4 and 6cyl classes too! Anyway, I didn't make
it into the quick 8 (the 8 fastest in each class) so I went on to the
brackets. I made it to the semi-finals having to race hondas the whole time
and thinking to myself, 'One more down'!!!! One honda shattered his axle on
the start line (hee hee), another red lighted, but 3 of them I just out and
out beat!! Now, we were down to the semi-finals (and then there were 4). I
had the lane I had had the whole time and was ready to down another honda.
I got a good start, got a better time, but somehow he beat me? I have no
idea why or how but the slip said that he won? Maybe someday I'll figure it
out but someone said that since my reaction time was like 9 hundreths
slower than his, that that was why I lost. Anyway, I came SOOOO close to
big money!! Winning king of the hill at a NIRA National event!!! Would of
been big money. Oh well, I sure did humble a lot of hondas!! There were
some BAD hondas there though. 11 sec hondas, and there was a RX7 that did 8
sec flat quarter at 170mph!!! That was awesome to see! Anyway, wished
someone else (ANYONE) could of come, it was truly a great time. A better
turn out than the Bug Nationals!! And the Brackets went quick. Plus, when
the brackets started, a thin cloud cover came in and cooled things off. It
was a perfect day!!
