Tranny Question

Hello, Listers...  I've just had the misfortune of experiencing the dreaded 
"self-maching" syndrome w/ my 16V.  i remember someone on the list mentioning 
using a shorter gearbox from a GTi.  Would someone be kind enough to tell me 
the code for that particular tranny?  Which tranny would be a better match?  
I have a 2L block mated to a 1.8 head and pretty soon will have euro intake 
cams, headers and the tt module.  Please advise...  Thank you all!
