Maiden voyage (scirocco update)

Well, the rocco survived a nearly 200 mile trip today. It drove beautifully.
It was kind of scary on the way up (CT to Mass) considering I just put the
whole rear end together yesterday. I kept thinking, did I forget a nut or
bolt somewhere, but the trip was basically uneventful. (besides the awesome
fact that I was driving my scirocco after 4 months of preperation...
woohoo!) I found out that it needs new shocks all around, and at least a
sway bar. I also need to do the rear brakes, I only redid the front. I've
got that 1/4-of-a-tank-even-though-it's-full syndrome also which I'll be
checking out shortly.

I must say, even though it's only a stock 8v 1.7 with close to 300k, the car
shocked the hell out of me. It's got great low speed torque, but
acceleration in the higher speeds is average. I kept up with a new trans am
on a two lane road. Of course I realize that if he wanted to, he could've
dusted me no problem, but it was great to drive a car that, even stock, was
above average.

I've decided to keep this car stock and just fix it up to original
condition. I plan on in the next year or so, looking for a newer 16v to work
on maxing out the performance. God, I love these cars!

In conclusion, today was a truly great day and I'm looking forward to many
more. Thanks for reading!
