bad o2?

Started the car up this morning and it ran fine...for about two blocks.
It then proceeded to gag and sputter, and sound like it was running on 3
cylinders.  Ran fine the day before yesterday when I last drove it.  I
drove it to the parts storeto buy a fuel filter assuming it was backed
up, but that didn't seem to help any.  Is this the sign of a fried o2
sensor?  My mileage lately has been about 24-25 mpg highway or city.
