Octane, EGR, oil temp senders

Excuse the tardiness; I'm behind on the digests.

VW used EGR on my 78 'cause it didn't have a cat and they needed
soemthing besides the retarded timing to keep NOx down.

A dual VDO oil pressure sender for the 150 psi electrical guage may not
have a low enough idiot light sender IME. I had to put "T" fitting in
after running the idiiot light disconnected allowed me to miss the OEM
radiator fan fuse blowing (found out when stuck in traffic jam, fWIW).

For an exhaustive and authoritative octane discussion see Pelican Parts
FAQ. Don't have URL handy.

During the "Great American Gasout" weekend, when you discuss
octane/mileage/performance, you need to give some details. Location,
engine/mangagement, season/weather, driving conditions. Kinda like
making sense of heavy parts wanted/fs without address. For example, here
in the states, octane is (R + M)/2. VW may use just the higher rating on
warnings. Also, helps if you note if the gas your commenting upon has
gasahol or other oxygenates.

If you do decide to add touluene to your gas tank, remember to send your
Uncle and your favorite gov'nor their tax cut. Its the law, and we all
abide every law here.

Finally, if you're ADM, don't send all the tax you owe. The politicos
need their kickbacks. There was one -brief- interesting and scary news
article here in local paper about some consumer group that had a Texas
testing lab analyze some Ohio gasoline samples. There was a substantial
percent (1/4 to 1/3) of gas samples were not to grade they were sold
as/contaminated. So, you can't count on big brother to look out for
you. We all know how concerned the big oil companies are about our
financial well-being.
(although any company that makes a practice of selling swill should lose
customers, so it is probably not intentional)
