Hood Release Problem

I am having a problem popping the hood of my car...I pull the lever and 
nothing happens...As if the cable is out of its holders or is broken...I can 
fix the problem, but I need to be able to open the hood first...Is there 
anyway to open the hood when the release lever is not working? TIA
