Portland Cruise-out finalization/please read
Hey all Scirocconians!
Well, the Porland Scirocco Cruise-out is drawing near. It will happen on
Saturday, October the 2nd. Previously I set the meeting time at 10:30am...
however, with reconsideration, I am moving it back to 9:30am just for the
sake of insuring that we have enough time to do what is to be done!
We will be meeting at the Safeway grocery store parking lot near Lloyd
Center (I don't know how many of you are familiar with Portland). Directions
are as follows:
Follow I-5 South accross the Columbia River into Portland. Continue for
two or three miles south on I-5 until you come to the Rose Quarter exit.
After proceeding to take the off-ramp, take a left at the second light (when
taking the exit, keep in the leftmost lane, after the 1st light you will want
to cut over to the left lane as another lane merges with the offramp lane at
the 1st light). The second light will be Weidler Street. That is where you
want to turn left.
You want to continue down Weidler Street through seven or eight lights.
Shortly past the light at the intersection of 10th and Weidler, there will be
a Safeway (newly remodeled) on your left. It is in that parking lot that we
will be meeting. The parking lot is built at an uphill slant.
More than likely we will be there for about an hour or so, waiting for
people to show up and B.S.ing about our cars. Then, around 10:30am or so, we
will head out and go for about a 45 minute drive or so east on I-84 to
Multnomah Falls. It is undecided as to wether or not we will hike to the top
or not... it is kind of a hike... the decision will be made as the day
progresses. It is a killer sight to see however, and there is a short hike
up to a bridge that sits about 1/3 of the way up or so.
After we are through with Multnomah Falls, we will head back to Portland.
There I will lead you through a killer network of very tight winding forest
roads... conservatively that is... After that we will head to the Rock Creek
Tavern, the most killer "middle of nowhere" tavern I have ever been to, for
some grub and some beer!
I would recommend bringing some hiking boots, a small day pack of food,
and some beer $$$. Underagers not to fear, the Rock Creek Tavern is open to
those of all ages!
If any of you have any questions, please e-mail me or e-mail the Scirocco
list and I will answer them!!
