B-Pillar treatments

The black rubberized finish on my Scirocco's b-pillar is peeling away
from the surface. 

Has anyone been successful removing this without destroying the paint
underneath? Using what tools/techniques?

Has anyone found a good replacement material to duplicate/replace this
finish?

Anybody have badges that say something more interesting than "Karman"
that I can stick on when I re-do these?
