Re: that damn 16v conversion



The ignition coil should receive power to it's positive terminal constantly.
The negative terminal is what is controlled by the hall sender/computer
stuff (or good ol' points in the old days).  So, if you apply power to the
positive terminal, then run a wire from ground to the negative terminal
(leave this end loose, don't bolt it right to the coil).  Every time you
touch the terminal with the grounded wire, you should produce one spark.

On a VW I would be sure to disconnect all other wires as I'm not sure how
this would affect the computer or hall sender.

There is also other stuff involved, but that should tell you if the coil is
good or not.  Some coils have internal resistance and some have external -
this may only apply to point systems, not sure.
