Recaro seats in a scirocco (help)

I have a 1980 scirocco and am wondering if anyone has ever put the seats from 
a 89 jetta 16v in a scirocco . I know the seats physically fit in there but I 
also know that even set at their lowest they are still not as low as the 
original ones that came with the car . 
So what I am asking is if I can reupholster the scirocco bottom part with the 
Recaro material and attach the seat back , or if I have to cut and weld my 
Recaro seat mounts lower .
