I did it for the weight distrubution.  

That said, I also have a custom ram air system in the car.  But the
system was put in before I moved the battery, so the battery placement
really wasn't an issue in this.  Although I'm hard pressed to call it a
"ram air" system, since I really don't think I'm getting a worthwhile ram
effect.  There is a difference, but I think it's due more to being a cold
air draw.  But once again, I digress...
