Re: synthetic for 8v

<x-charset iso-8859-1><snip>
the only bad thing i've heard about synthetic is that it doesn't
protect to as high a temp.

Synthetic oil works GREAT as it gets hotter. One of the main advantages of
synthetic oil is it's temperature range.
Synthetic won't thicken in the cold, and doesn't thin as it gets hot. I use
Mobil 1 5-30 in all my cars, year round.
True synthetic oil story:
A while after I rebuilt my Scirocco motor, the oil light started coming on.
I knew there was oil in there, so I just figured the sender was bad. One
summer day after I filled up my gas tank and resetting my trip odo, the
light came on solid, and stayed on. After driving a couple more days (62
miles) the lifters started rattling like crazy. I take it home a drop the
pan to have a look. I almost shit myself when I saw the oil pump sitting in
the oil pan. I guess after I finger tightened the bolts, I forgot to go back
and use a wrench?! I put the pump back on, (with a few drops of loctite) and
off I went. That was 20k miles ago. No problems with the motor at all, no
consumption between 6k mile oil changes. Pure Synthetic is worth every penny
in any motor you put it in.
