Gotta agree with you Chris, it's an 8mm triple square.  I've pulled axles
at least 9 times, on 80's rabbits & GTI's, 70's and 80's mk1 sciroccos,
90's Passat 16v, 80's Mk2 sciroccos both 8v and 16v's.  If someone has
gotten a 9mm to fit, it's probably just lucky.
