lightened flywheels?

I understand the merits of lightened fly wheels, i  just want to know where 
to take the metal off, i have access to a brake lathe at work, i think it 
will do a good job, any one know for sure?  it would be alot cheaper than 
buying one aftermarket so i think i will try it with one of my spares if some 
one can give me some giudance as to where to remove the weight.
