hit it harder:) seriously
i tried for 2 days to get mine off and then one nite i was hitting on it
and it just popped off.  It helps if you hit on the outside cup and
alternate the place where you are hitting it ( dont just hit it on one side
of the joint).  After a while it will come off.  I wouldn't use a rubber
mallet because i found that i couldnt get enough force on it.  Just use a
regular hammer but go easy so you dont smash anything.
