Re: Does ANYONE know what year my car is?

<x-charset iso-8859-1>Theoretically, the change was to have taken place across the Calendar (This
is how [most] Euro companies release new models) Year, such that all 84
Sciroccos built on or before 12/84 had the full size spare, small spoiler,
1.7L engine and associated injection components, plus other items bantered
about on this forum previously.

In practice, VW seems to have had a big box of leftover early-style parts
that seem to have been pulled out and pressed into service whenever the
delivery van was late with the next batch of the newer goodies such that
throughout the 84 model year we all find these items interspersed at random.

The same is true for Cabriolets (er, still Rabbit Convertibles) across the
84 Model Year. Makes for a very confusing parts run from time to time.

It has served me well to always bring in the piece I am replacing to compare
against the parts book illustration or another on-hand piece. Granted this
isn't always possible.

On an unrelated note, I sold my 83 GTi today, to a friend of mine who
wrecked his 83 GTi. I know it is going to a good home where it will be well
cared for but I miss the car already and it only left about 2 hours ago.

Any one who knows of a _*clean*_ preferably one-owner MK1 GTI anywhere in
any condition, please note I will be a ready cash buyer after the holidays.
I'm going to try the show car route with the next one, bone stock and shiny.

Alternately, I am now a cash buyer of a late model cabby body kit for a
makeover on my 82 Convertible if anyone has parts/leads.

Cheers,

tiAn
