Re: Does ANYONE know what year my car is?

If it makes you feel any better, when I bought my Scirocco, it was
advertised as an '83. When we registered it, they told us it was an
'82. Over time I noticed some odd things. The car had insanely low
mileage (66K after 9 years), the clutch lasted 144K miles (much longer
than normal), the rear suspension had the holes in it for a swaybar
(which it is my understanding that they didn't get a rear swaybar until a
few years later), the 80mm air flow sensor (which I keep getting mixed
info on whether or not the 1.7s ever came with those), yellow stenciling
on the engine and transmission, and an unusual red primer showing in the
chips on the passenger side of the car. As time went on I found that the
entire right side of the car was cut from a red Scirocco and welded on,
as was the front from a black one. A title check revealed some 76.5K
miles dissapeared from the odometer, bringing the total now up to
something in the 250K range. Over time we had installed the rear hatch
off of an '85 so we could get the rear wiper. That, along with the BBS
wheels from an '88 BMW 325is and a roof antenna from a first-generation
M3, leaves my car with a bit of an identity crisis...
