The Scirocco that I am referring to IS a GTI.  The badge is a one piece
badge and it says Scirocco, then under that, on the same badge, it says GTi.
It is a 4 speed right now, so maybe it is 75, 76, 77, 78 and not the 80
something that I thought.  It is in pretty decent shape, and would be worth
fixing up a little if it is indeed rare.  LMK what you all and Andre think!!
