Head Bolts
<x-charset iso-8859-1>Just a quick question: Do you HAVE TO buy new head bolts for a 16v when
doing the head gasket? It is really hard to justify buying head bolts for
$125+ when the whole motor didn't even cost me that. I have reused the head
bolts on an 8v before (don't know if they are torque to yield bolts or not)
and didn't have any problems at all. LMK!!! This is the only thing holding
me up right now. Oh, another quicky, what is the difference between the
1.8L head gasket and the 2.0L? I bought the 1.8L headset and didn't
realized that it is either reccomended or a must to use the 2.0L head
gasket. I also matched the 1.8L head gasket up to the 2.0L block and
everything seemed to match up! I was told that the stroke was what was
changed to make it a 2.0L (I know the block is entirely different too but
the bore I was told is the same as the 1.8L). I have a 2.0L 16v block from
a 93 Passat if that helps. May have more questions later as I go. TIA!
