Yes, it's possible, but i'd look for one from a mk2 if i were you (82 or
83).  The mk1 is a bit more of a pain, as the mounting bracket is not in the
right spot, and needs to be bent into a kinda z shape.  But, it will work,
with a little elbow grease.  The mk2 is a drop in to late model mk2's  as
far as i know
