of the (coilover) shock/strut is shorter than the stock housing. The spring
could be 4"long or 40" long, if the piston bottoms out, it ain't moving
anymore.
since an A1 chassis has about 4"of travel, if you lower the car 2", you have
lowered the piston 2" closer to the bottom of the strut. If it was a shorter
piston and housing, you would obviously have more room before it bottomed
out. BUT, since the housing is shorter, you've made the space that the
piston can travel in shorter.
All the coilovers I've seen (not a lot), have been so close to the stock
length that it wouldn't make a difference--except-- for lowering/raising and
the REAL reason you'd use a coilover-- corner balancing.
