My '81 awaits 16v from newly purchased GLI
I just picked up an '89 GLI 16v for pretty cheap! I'm ecstatic! It has 148k
on it, but runs very strong...
I think I saw my poor non-running '81 smile when I drove the Jetta in the
back yard next to it.
My '81 Rocco has recently been having problems remaining running. The car
will not idle..not even close. The tach nose dives once the foot is let off
the gas. If I give it gas, it revs, but sputters anc coughs.
Here's my question... Should I even worry about fixing this problem before
beginning the 16v swap? I'm thinking no. I have a strong feeling that it's
something wrong with the fuel injection system of the current 1.7l.
I'm a first time engine swapper.. Any advice? I've been trying to read up on
everything humanly possible regarding the swap. However, if any of you peeps
can suggest a web site or two detailing a swap, or some personal anecdotes,
I'd be grateful.
And lastly, I'm parting out the GLI. Everything minus front seats, engine,
and brakes. I'm selling these parts for REAL cheap, so grab anything you
want. ...The guy I bought it from began to modify the trunk. Whereas there
would be a licence plate on the trunk, the guy did a nice job smoothing it
out and filling all the holes, so it's completely smooth. Again, the dude
did a real sweet job on this, so if any of you's want or know someone who
wants this trunk for $100, e-mail me.
