<Anyone have any problems with low octane? Does anyone really
know what octane <is?
I know what octane is, it's a definition of the gas explosion
grade.
<I did a exhausted study on content and quality of gas. You are
probably going to be <blown away by what I have found! Octane is
shit!!! Octane is nothing more than an <inhibitor to keep gas
from exploding as violently and straight gas.
Octane is nothing in the gas, it's a number telling how easily
and fast gasoline burns. You actually has two octane readings,
RON and MON, I don't remember which one is which but one is how
easily the gas explodes and the other how fast the gasoline
burns. If you with a formula put RON and MON together you get
the pump "octane grade".
<Therefore when you use higher octane you get less explosion
resulting in less burn <and as a result you get less HP not
more.
This is right but if you have a high compression motor or
overcharged your motor will ping. The motor is making most power
when it's pinging sligthly but it will kill damage/kill your
pistons depending on compression ratio and/or boost. A given
amount of low octane gas has more energy stored in it than the
same amount of high octane gas but if you increase compression
ratio and advance timing you get more power earlier in power
band and you can get more power to the wheels on the same amount
of gas.
<Now in the past one good reason to run high octane (if you did
not ping with low of <course) is they always had cleaning
additives in the high test nowadays some <companies (mobile for
one) have it in all grades. Now if you think about this <concept
you can thats why they brag that high octane might give you
minimal <better gas mileage,because it actually burns longer.
Just some FYI to same ya <some money. If you can rub low JUST DO
IT!
Reading the above and doing a simple conclusion, if you get more
power earlier in power band you can change gear at lower RPM for
the same acceleration, this will save gas in most motors. On
some motors you have an electronic ignition with knock sensor,
this will retard your timing if it "hears" pinging or sometimes
for other mechanical noices, this will give you less power in
motor.
