My Tach Is doining weird shit??(kinda long)



My tach seems to either have a loose connection or is on it's way out.  It 
seems fine if I am accelerating or slowing down but, if I am just keeping 
pace usually around 3000 rpms or so it will just jump up to like 3700 and 
just sort of float around between 3000-3700, but there is no change in the 
sound of the engine.  Now for some background, I just recently installed a 
2.0 16v out of a 92 golf gti, right now I have the 2.0's head on the car with 
and I didn't change the distributor either, I also have cold start issues, I 
think it might be because I didn't change the old coolant sensors into the 
new engine, and I am pretty sure my ignition timing is off a few degrees.  I 
also have a new clutch that doesn't seem to slip on either up or down shifts. 
 I can't hear the rpms changing so I assume the problem is the tach or the 
sender for it.  Has anyone had this sort of problem or have any ideas as to 
how I should go about fixing it?  BTW the car is an 88 16v so I didn't have 
to do much rewiring also I kept the old cis-e injection.
