ignition problem

Hi all 

I was driving the 8v today(extreemly jealous car 'caus the new 16v 
and all) and while i was going down the road it stumbled.  kind of 
like the spark cut out for a brief instant.  the car just hesitated 
for an instant and was fine.  My friend drove the car last night and 
had the same problem.  He said that the tach dropped from 3k to 2k 
once.  In my experience when the tach goes haywire it is usually an 
ignition problem.
another thing the car only seams to do it after at least  20 min or 
1/2 hour.
things that are new plug wires (blue ignitors) plugs dist cap & 
rotor(bosch) fuel filter.
Possible suspects.  wires to coil, wires form ignition module to 
distributer, coil etc
Maybe the coil is overheating???
any ideas
