16v conversion update
The conversion of my '81 Scirocco to a 16v 1.8l is going along very well.
I'm taking everything from an '89 Jetta GLI 16v.
A few questions:
I want to swap all four brakes. All discs. I can wait on the rear discs,
cause it's not all that important to me to swap them just yet, but the front
discs will bolt on (providing I'm using larger rims), and I want to use the
master cylinder from the Jetta. Will this sucker bolt right on to the
booster that's in the Scirocco right now? Should I use the Jetta's booster?
I'm going to change the clutch on the 16v engine while it's out of the car.
Is this a tough job?
On the CIS-E system, when the key is turned to the "on" position, the fuel
pump makes a quaint little "humming" noise as it primes itself. On my '81
Scirocco, it does not. Should I be using the fuel pump/accumulator assembly
from the Jetta, and if so, what's different? I know, for one, the filter is
located in the rear in this setup, rather than under the hood.
And, lastly, I badly need a stock Scirocco 16v exhaust manifold.
UNLESS, anyone suggests an OEM exhaust kit for such a conversion?
Oh yeah, one more thing. I'm still trying to get rid of these parts off this
Jetta. Everything, EXCEPT: engine, front seats, brakes, driver's door,
sunroof, inst cluster. Right. So, there's still some things left. And for
really cheap!
