Well I'm gonna go with the tranny swap on my 1980 rocco with the 92 1800 GTI
8V. What was I thinking by keeping the POS AUTO in there??? Anyways I got a
deal on a 97 Jetta 5-spd tranny, about 20,000 km's, for 700 bucks, which
includes all the linkage etc to make the swap. Is that a good deal? Remember
i live in Canada, and 0.68 is our crappy rate.
Should i keep looking or is this tranny perfect for the engine in there? Is
it overkill? What's the tranny code on this one? Should I bother with a
close-ratio tranny etc etc???
My mechanic wants 500 to install it, @ about 10 hours work. Problem is, he
likes to do it with no paper trail whatsoever, so should i risk it? Other
shops will go as low as 350 canadian.
Please help me ASAP. I am trannyless right now and very vulnerable.
