my crankshaft troubles/intake mainfolds
This relates to the intake manifold thing.. a bit. :) Since we just got a
TIG welder, I'm going to be playing around with making my own aluminum
sheetmetal intakes, possibly with mustang throttle bodies or something,
It's still in the design phase, and my dad is just starting to teach me how
to weld, so it'll be a bit. Any suggestions will be good.
update on my crankshaft situation. For whoever remembers, my crankshaft
went, cause by too much axial load, caused by BAD BABY SITTING! oh sorry, I
mean caused by the clutch adjusted too tight.
So I got a new crank, bearings, clutch, oil pump, etc. I buttoned up the
engine today and got the clutch and tranny installed then it got dark.
Tommorow it will be finished finally after 1.25 weeks. Woohoo! I can not
WAIT to drive my precious scirocco w/ lightened flywheel and new clutch.

There was a problem today however besides the numerous trips to the
autoparts store for bolts and stuff. Today I figured out a JH w/ G-grind
and a few thou shaved off the head and block is an interference engine
unfortunately. We had the belt off and just installed the crank and my dad
is turning it w/ a rachet on the end and the crank stops.. so he pulls
harder and it turns a bit a gets really hard. so he puts kindof a lot of
force on it but it doesn't move.
hmmmmmm we're thinking what could be wrong... we just plastigauged all the
bearings and checked axial play.. I pulled the plugs to release compression
and it still doesn't budge. Then it hits me! OH SHIT! Your hitting the
valves! Well, The cam got turned by the backwards pressure of the piston
pushing the valve(s), but I'm hoping to god that we didn't bend anything.
After I get it back together it's gonna be a tense time when I do a
compression test. wish me luck
