    There are several retrofit kits avail. for 134a. There are also several
other replacement refrigerants as well...
R12freeze and others. I don't remember if there's a faq on this, ought to
be. Regardless of what you fill the system with, all leaks need to be
sealed. This can be all new o-rings (anywhere there's a nonbrazed
connection) and the compressor shaft seal itself can dry out.

AFAIK, the major stumbling block for most DIY'ers is that you must clear out ALL the Freon prior to charging with R134a (assuming that you've installed the kit).

If someone knows otherwise - please advise!
