strange noise until warm...

    On my '87 16v, Sometimes when I start it up it makes a funny
popping/rumbling noise coming from the back of the car. Sounds like part
of the exhaust is vibrating or something. It stays until the engine gets
warm or until I  rev higher than idle. Anyone had this problem? It seems
pretty strange to me.
