Need Mono wiper install help!

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I was excited to announce that I found a
mono wiper from a MK1 for my MK2 16v.  I took out the old motor and
linkage, and discovered a few problems.
1) The motors have different connectors.  (no problem, I'll just swap
motors)
2) The new linkage/bracket from the MK1, once positioned misses the bolt
hole by about 1/2".

What gives?  Do I modify my MK2 bracket to accept the MK1 linkage?  Or
do I bend the MK1 bracket to be able to meet the bolt hole?
