Would it happen to be a rear fog light switch? Ya know one of those bright red read lights so idiots behind you don't dent your baby? You might not have the light there but have the wires or the light has been removed? Some even say this is built into you rear lens?

This is of course coming out of my ass for I have a MK1 and you a MK2, but HTH

Hi everyone :-)  Redoing rear brakes today.  Still
mystified as to one switch on the dash.  The column
on the right of the instrument panel, has a rear defroster
horizontal switch, and under it, two small vertical switches.
One controls my fog lights (lights when they are on).  Beside
it (the left side) is a red switch, translucent so I think it should
light, but I have no idea what it does!
Flipping it doesn't seem to affect idle or voltages as far as I have
figured out thus far.  I might label it "Warp Driver" :-) or NOS :-)
