  No panel, yes relays.

Reverse light should come on but one of two things might be broken if
they don't come on at all. 1) The shift swtich on top the the trans (if
i remember correctly) which'll run about $30 or 2) a 10 cent spring
inside the engine that'll cost you $150 to fix because you'll have to
take it to a mechanic. This is what's happened on mine ('86 Scirocco 8v)
and on my friends '86 Jetta.

I do it occasionally and I haven't had any problems with my car (190k
and counting). Had to push start the car because of a dead battery
outside of Chicago. Started up, but had to play with the gas to get the
battery charged back up. The only time you might need to hotwire the
fuel pump up is if your relay dies ($400 vs. 1 minute of jiggling.
Horrible experience).

The pads (disc, I assume) just slide on. You need a screwdriver to
pull a tab to get them off. Offhand, I don't remember the drum brakes.

I've been using Pennzoil 10W-30 for the past 50k and haven't had a
problem.

There was recently a big discussion about this in
rec.autos.makers.vw.watercooled. You might be able to catch up on it
using Deja-News.

I would like to know as well. Mine got ripped and although I could
most likely patch it up and make it look good, it is the only part of my
interior that is white. I've see replacement liners in JC Whitney for
cheap but have never had the experience/chance to put one on.
