RE: Free Parts, and an Air Conditioning Question
Good question for Michael, if you think it was pretty well charged, then
check electrical before taking it in.
I bought my 85 8V with non-working AC. The owner had a receipt from a German
mechanic who said "there must be a fusible link under the dash that is
blown". That pretty much kept that task at the bottom of my repair list.
After buying all the pulley's to remove my AC completely, I happen to be
doing some electrical work under the dash and decided to trace the line to
the compressor with the DVM. Next, I checked all the switches on the
heater/AC controls = the AC worked when tested. Although they looked solid,
there was poor contact on one connection, preventing power to the compressor
clutch. I think the previous owner/shop caused it when installing cheap
stereo equip.
After the AC not running or serviced for at least 4 years, I sold the car
with the original AC intact last year. Good luck.....
