That's what I thought... I couldn't remember offhand what the earlier
calipers were called.
You mention that you use ATE powerdiscs - are they the ones with the
elliptical grooves? If so, how do they compare with stock and/or Black
Diamonds?  I've currently got Black Diamond grooved but they are just about
ready for replacement.  I noticed that the ATE disks are a good bit cheaper
than the Black Diamonds and so was considering using them.

AFAIK this does not apply to the Teves or Girling calipers that were
used prior to 1980.

For Kelsey-Hayes calipers - yes.

It is a relatively simple and inexpensive job to upgrade to KH calipers
- I did this on Kristen's 1978 Scirocco . . .

I use ATE Powerdisc vented and slotted rotors on all my cars.
