'85 and '86 GLI's were all 8v's. (Maybe some late '86's were 16v's). I
had an '85 GLI once. I rolled it. Bummer, because it was a nice car. They
have a nice 10:1 compression ratio motor in them, 100bhp - same as the 8v
A2 GTI. Just too bad about the hydraulic lifters. I just drove an '87 GLI
8v last night, which was a surprise - I thought that all '87-'89 GLI's
were 16v's, but evidently not so, just like I used to think that all '87
-'89 Sciroccos were 16v's. Again, not so.
