help tranny

Hi everyone 
I need some help.  I am in the middle of a clutch tranney swap.  I am
putting the trans back it and I can  get it on but it doesn't seam to
seat all the way on.  I am maybe half an inch off?  Everything seems to
be right but I just can't get that half inch... the only thing that I
can think of is that maybe I kicked the clutch release lever on the way
up both times and it was keeping it from going all the way 
ANY IDEAS
