Crossmember

Now that everything is out of my 81's ingine bay, I plan on re-inforcing
the crossmember.  However, one thing caught my eye.  While taking out the
front engine mount bracket (which is mounted on the crossmember), I noticed
that rust had eaten away the area around the mount.  Should I be concerned
with that or just a little TLC and re-inforcement would suffice.  Finally,
what gauge of metal should I use?
