what I meant to say:

Without seeing your car, I think the stripes were dealer applied. There
were VW stripes - they are in many of my brochures - but those don't
sound like the VW ones (seeing helps)

whenever i get my greedy hands on a scanner, i'll scan all my Scirocco
brochures so we can put them up on the Scirocco.org
