self destructing tranny

2 questions:
Just got my new 88 16V and I don't want this tranny problem.
Question in regards to this statement...

The tranny seals?  How often to cahnge seals ?  how often to change fluid?
How difficult to change seals?

Also:

Everyone talks of Redline.  What's the consensus on Redline vs Spectro?  TIA
