Strange that you should mention this, as it jogged a memory.  (one of) the
first things to go as you get older I guess...

When I ordered the new wiper nozzles for my 88 16v, the parts guy asked me
if I wanted the heated version...apparantly it was an option(?)  If you
wanted heated nozzles, go get em.  How difficult could it be to hook up?
Just a pair of wires from each side, add a switched 12v source, and you'd
be melting.
