engine heating up

Here's a different one gang.

My car heats up (not to overheating though) while I'm doing daily normal
driving.  But here's where it gets tricky.  IF i rev up the motor, say to 5K
rpm the temperature drops to the normal position.  It will then start back up
to the warmer spot.

Any ideas?  I'm thinking of replacing the thermostat this weekend.  Does any
one know if I can see the water pump impeller to see if it is loose?
