This is something that I was most concerned about when I first got my
Scirocco. The first time I ever saw this was on my VW Man's 16v roc.
Everytime I would ask him, he would never have time to tell me. (I
think he wanted to keep this to himself... :) Front bumpers, not as
hard as you would think. The only thing I was scared of is oil pissing
all over me and my driveway, but that didn't happen. (Thank God) I
went through the shock with a super sharp ass drill bit. Tip: Make
several holes. When I got thorough there was a huge air decompression
that came from the bumper. Scared the shit out of me, I'll tell you
that. Did the same on the other side. I stared kicking it in. Didn't
do anything. So I took off the bumper skin (it was busted anyways),
took a huge piece of wood and started ramming it in. When you reach
your desired length on pushing it in, drill another hole in the shock
and put a screw in to it stays there. Simple as that. The only thing
that I don't like about this is that the bumper skin sicks out on both
sides of the front fender. But what can you do?
This is how I pulled off the rear tuck. I bit different than your, but
almost as much effective. I took off the 4 big bolts holding the
bumpers mounts in.
After that, I placed it on the floor and wondered what I could do. I
noticed a big ass useless bar 2 1/2 to 3 inches by 2 1/2 to 3 inches.
I took the reciprocating saw to it and stared cutting away at it.
After removing the bar, the bumper went in substantially. No more park
bench for my car. I was thiking of doing it the way you did Jim, but I
figured that would take too much thinking. (I like the easy way out)
:) Now that you did this, take off the brackets and cut the bar off,
it will go in even more!!! This is the way I see the situation!
See what you can do!!!
