It's fairly common.  So is stupidity and laziness too.  I had an '85 GTI a
few years back and the insurance card said said Volkswagon, yes with an
"o".  I see butchered Scirocco spellings on for sale ads too.  Usually
these are mispelled by the owner of the car.
