Trans/driveshaft question

Now excuse my ignorance, as I am not too familiar with the part names, but
I have a 2h tranny in my 87 16v and I was wondering if there would be any
negatives to switching the hub that I believe is on the tranny connected
to the driveshaft from a 100mm hub to a 90mm hub.Do you know what part I'm
talking about?  TIA.
