I went through this a few months back.. scared the shit out of me.  It's
no big deal - it's just your shift linkage.. not an expensive repair at all.
Take it to a competent VW guy if you're not sure how to handle it.. get all
your bushings replaced at the same time and your car will shift MUCH better.
